Weather

One of the wonderful things about San Marcos, Texas is there is no bad time to visit. Rain or shine, heat wave or cold front, San Marcos has plenty to do, see, explore and taste no matter the weather.

San Marcos has, on average, 232 days of sunshine per year (compared to the US average of 205). It is hot in the summer, but we prefer it that way because the San Marcos River stays 72-degrees all year long, providing a refreshing respite from the summer sun. August is the hottest month of the year with an average high of 95.5 degrees. We recommend wearing light, breathable clothing and bringing plenty of protection from the Texas sun like hats and sunscreen.

If you’re looking to avoid the Texas heat for your trip, you can’t go wrong with a fall or spring SMTXperience. March, April, October and November are excellent times to visit where the high temperatures range from 70-85. You can wear a light jacket in the morning and wear your sandals in the afternoon.

San Marcos winters are quite mild with temperatures usually not dipping to freezing or below. It’s certainly not usual to see snow in San Marcos, but every once in a while, we get just enough to play in for about a day before it melts, and we are back in our shorts and tee shirts once more. It might be a good idea to pack a light jacket and a slightly heavier layer just in case things get weird…

San Marcos gets about 35 inches of rain a year, just a few inches below the national average of 38.1 inches. May, June and October are the wettest months of the year and August the driest. Visitors should be aware that while it is not a regular occurrence, prolonged rains could possibly result in flooding in the area.
